This issue of the Online Magazine focuses on rivers and water, and on structures in relation to them. It is worth being reminded occasionally how important rivers were in the shaping of prehistory. As William Cary wrote in the NEARA Journal Vol XXVII 3&4 in 1993:
Allowing myself a few flights of fancy, I can see complex
lithic sites throughout New England where salmon in large numbers arrived
to spawn and die, especially in locations where they arrived mysteriously
by different routes.
- The Salmon Connection
The articles in this issue relfect the theme that ceremonial architecture is placed in relation to water. Tim MacSweeney writes about fish weirs, turtle shaped rocks and zigzag stone walls; Ann Harrison writes about pyramids in Florida. Ros Strong tells an interesting story about Dragons. Keep an eye out for other articles which should appear here in the near future.
