The NEARA Library & Archives
An extensive collection of books, archive and vertical file materials, journals and newsletters, photographs, slides and other media as well as NEARA’s site reports has found a home in the NH Conference of the United Church of Christ Building at 140 Sheep Davis Road Pembroke, NH.
We needed to construct shelves to hold our collection and begin the migration of all the archival files to the new site. December and January are not really ideal times for these activities, but work got underway anyhow. The building property manager was hired to facilitate moving larger items, boxes of books and file cabinets. A local interior carpenter and his crew were hired to construct wooden shelves, which can be disassembled and moved to another location. NEARA members have have been of great assistance in making this move happen. From searching for a suitable site, to packing up books, to moving boxes and building shelves, their help has been greatly appreciated and invaluable in terms of man hours not billed. An early summer open house is planned to celebrate the official reopening of NEARA’s Library, probably a Sunday in June.
We plan to have the move complete, unpacked and all in place by May. Meanwhile, library business will continue as usual as much as possible, knowing that retrieval of materials will entail a trip to Pembroke and not just to the reading room at NHTI. The NHTI catalogue will still be available for searching for NEARA books, as will the NH van system, email and snail mail.
